Jonathan Zhou and Robin Sherpa, more widely recognised as a Swedish DJ/Producer duo, Trilane have entered the Dance Music scene in 2008. They continue to release their originals and have received support from players like Tom Swoon straight away. Recently, they collaborated with Swedish youngster and hope, YARO from Nicky Romero’s label Protocol Recordings and released “Miss Out”. Exciting enough, Trilane talked to us about the collaboration and their future plans to step up and follow the paths of pioneering Swedish superstars.

Q1. We heard your new release "Miss Out". Can you tell us a bit about it and how it happened that the label boss, Nicky Romero jumped on board to edit the track?

The track started out with us and Yaro playing around with melodies together in the studio. We made the main hook melody and got really inspired by it. It reminded us a bit of the big progressive sound that we fell in love with back in 2009-2010. That drove us further to finish the rest of the instrumental. We then sent it to Max who nailed the vox super fast, like in a couple of hours! We finished the track and sent it to Protocol. A couple of weeks later we got an e-mail that they used to listen to our track in the office and that Nicky wanted to do some tweaks.

Q2. How did you decide to work with YARO and how was it?

Yaro has been a friend since a few years back and since we all share the same passion for producing music and DJ'ing it came quite naturally to sit in the studio together. It has worked so well that we have several other projects incoming!

Q3. How is your 2017 so far?

It has really been a ground-breaking one with the release on Protocol as well as upcoming tracks on Mirage and Buce records! We are extremely grateful for all the push and support from Protocol as a label and of course Nicky romero himself. And we are really happy with all the positive feedback for "Miss Out".

Q4. Can you pick 1 or 2 must plays in your sets and tell us why you choose them?

Thats a tough one, since there are so many! Our track Horatio (From Miami) coming up together with Yaro always gets the crowd going and fits perfect with the upcoming Miami Music Week. We also love 'Front 2 Back' by Regilio and Corey James which is just a massive energy bomb!

Q5. Who or what influenced you musically the most and why?

Growing up in the EDM country of Sweden it is really hard to mention simply one since there are so many inspirations here. But if we would have to say one it would probably have to be Axwell since we simply love all his productions and even after so much success he is always striving to be even better!

Q6. What would Japanese fans be surprised to learn about you?

Jonathan enjoys watching allot of CGI movies from japan such as Appleseed series and Vexille as well as playing the game Final Fantasy! Robins absolute favourite food is Sushi and is determined to eat at Sukiyabashi Jiro when he goes to Tokyo.

Q7. What's coming up next for you in the 2017?

Well next up we have Horatio (from Miami) which will be out the 20th of march on Mirage records and after that two releases on BUCE coming up! There are also quite a few projects in progress which we hope to be showing soon!

Q8. Please leave a message for your fans in Japan.

We want to thank you for all the great support and positive feedback lately! It has really been an inspiration for us to work even harder with our music and we hope to see all of you in Japan one day soon.

Trilane has been supported by big players who we year after year see their names up on DJ MAG TOP 100 DJs such as Afrojack, Nicky Romero, Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman, Sick Individuals, Tom Swoon, D-wayne and many more. Just like their release from Protocol, they also release exciting tracks from Phazin, Wall, Mirage, Buce records and continue to step up their game bit by bit. Trilane is another DJ/Producer who not only Japanese fans but Asian fans should follow for their upcoming projects and releases.
