Q1. We heard your new track “Touch Your Face”. Can you tell us more about it?

For me writing a song can be a state of mind thing, I often find myself just following what feels good when I’m writing rather sticking to a set direction. For this track I wanted to translate what was in my head at the time and the basic ideas started from there, every bit of music I write has something emotionally invested as I try to let my feelings inspire my workflow and determination more than the actual production process. Sounds a bit deep doesn’t it haha!

Q2. How was your last year? What are your resolutions for 2017?

2016 was a very interesting year for sure, apart from the obvious major downers like losing truly great musicians like Prince, David Bowie and George Michael. The world also seems to be going through a bit of transitional period so 2017 looks like it could be quite different indeed. Music wise it was a good year from me, my single on Don Diablo’s label ‘Close My Eyes’ reached over 3.5 million plays on Spotify so that was quite a landmark!! To be honest I don’t really make new years resolutions but one thing’s for sure there will be a higher turnout music wise this year from me which I’m very excited about!

Q3. Where do you get your inspiration from when producing music?

I have a tendency to get inspiration from all sorts of areas, I always make sure I have very varied pallet of music as my soundtrack. I think most people would be quite surprised by what’s on my playlists! I regularly find time to check out what’s happening in other scenes and genres. I find it really helps to keep your finger on the pulse and gives you insight and awareness to where things are going musically. I’m really feeling what some of the drum & bass and dubstep producers are doing at the moment, they really do push the boundaries of what’s expected and I love that!

Q4. Who or what musically influenced you the most?

Many musicians have influenced me throughout my life. Growing up I was infatuated with Queen. To me Freddie Mercury was one of the greatest stage performers of all time and up there with the legends like Michael Jackson. My dad was an avid vinyl collector and due to this I had very different music around me compared to what other kids were listening to at the time. Even now I still love to kick back and listen to classic long players from Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Prince, early Genesis and even Enya! Recent composers such as Hanz Zimmer, Brain Eno, Thomas Newman and Sigur Rós continue to be of inspiration for me but in the electronic scene I think The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Eric Prydz and Axwell have been paramount in recent years.

Q5. Since DJ Mag started to vote “Top 100 Clubs”, I want to ask your favorite clubs.

I’m open minded on clubs, I was gutted on the closure of Fabric here in the UK so great that’s now reopening. Perhaps I’ll come back to you later this year as there are a lot I’ve yet to visit and experience. Ministry Of Sound in London still holds something special for me but it’s about the energy on the night and the people who come, they are what make a great event rather than the actual building. I’d love to come to Japan obviously. Maybe you can recommend some clubs for me?!

Q6. What’s coming up next for you in 2017?

A plethora of new releases on labels like Enhanced Music, a brand new radio show and I’ll be out on the road a lot more DJing. I’m really looking forward to visiting countries and cities that my music has reached, I can’t wait to perform to give something back and show my gratitude to those who have been supporting me.

Q7. Please leave a message for your fans in Japan.

Thank you so much for all the love and support in 2016, you guys have been amazing yet again. Can’t wait to show you what I’m working on in the studio and come and play for you this year!
