Q1. How was your last year?

Summer has been great! So many nice parties and festivals… Highlights are always the beach parties of course! :P

Q2. Please talk to us about your latest album Curveballs and the inspiration behind it.

It’s my fourth album and it’s a collection of strictly club tunes that define my actual sound, I go from breakbeats to electro to raw house to techno. As usual with my albums it’s more of a trip into a typical Riva Starr DJ set… also the title Curveballs indicates that you can expect the unexpected in my sets so be ready :)

Q3. Can you pick 1 or 2 must plays in your recent sets and why?

I’ve got plenty of new tracks from myself, friends and my label to play out so it’s quite difficult to choose. But, if I have to, I would say Santos - You Wanna Hear (from his newly launched label Let me Understand). It’s a slamming house cut that never fails to impress in the club and also a special edit that Tigerstripes sent me of Robert Hood’s Low Life… House roller at its best.

Q4. What was your first impression of Japan? What was the most surprising or impressive experience? Something within your expectation?

I’ve been playing in Japan since I was running my breakbeat project Madox (I played at Womb, Ageha, Vision, Air etc... Japan is one of my favourite places to visit and play my music. The people are genuinely excited to experience what you have to propose, they know a lot of detail about your work and very often kids show up with vinyl and exclusive t-shirts to be signed… that’s flattering. I’ve got plenty of friends there and the food is something else! :)

Q5. Any exciting new projects coming up that you can share with us?

I always have several projects (3 or 4) in the pipeline but I have decided to keep my identity kinda secret so that people can listen to the new music without having to think that Riva is behind! :)

Q6. Please leave a message for your fans in Japan.

I LOVE YOU! And I hope to see ya soon x
