A legend on top of the UK House scene, John Digweed. Since launching the original label, Bedrock Records in 1999, he has become one of the most recognised faces in the dance music scene along with another British legend, Carl Cox. Along with many other key players in the current scene, they have built the dance music industry that we now experience. Not to mention his performances at all top class festivals and clubs whilst creating countless hit tracks. Last April, he was also performing in Tokyo and now he has announced an interesting project for the Japanese fans.

Q1. You’ve just announced you’ll be releasing Live in Tokyo on July 27th. Please can you tell us a bit more about that project?

The “Live In” albums are a series I started that basically captures a live recording of my sets from various clubs around the world. After years of working on studio albums I love this concept as it’s a true reflection of me as a DJ.

Q2. This is the tenth installment in your ‘Live In…’ series. Why did you choose Tokyo for this landmark release?

I didn’t choose it – I never plan any of the CD’s it’s all based on the party and after I have listened back to the recording. Every gig I do I record so I can always capture that extra special party that makes it as a release. This is the first ‘Live In…’ album in over 16 months and after the party in Tokyo I knew I had something special. The party was so much fun and the energy from the crowd was full on from start to finish.

I have a long relationship with playing in Japan so its great to do the first Asian release from this great city

Q3. Can you please pick 3 records that haven’t left your sets over the past few months?

1, Josh Wink – BPM

2, Musumeci – WSSOF

3, Gabriel Ananda - Smash

Q4. When did you first play in Japan and what was your first impression of our country? What is the most surprising or impressive experience you’ve had in Japan?

I first came and played In japan in 2000 and I was only in the city for just 18 hours. I loved the vibe and couldn’t wait to return. I have been very lucky to spend some great quality time in Japan. I love the people, food and culture, and the parties are always so much fun to play at.

Q.5 How do Japanese fans compare with fans in other parts of the world. Do musical tastes differ?

The Japanese crowd are really into their electronic music and really let go when they come to party. For me they are one of the best crowds in the world to play for.

Q6. You recently celebrated the twentieth anniversary of your label Bedrock Records with your amazing Bedrock XX release. What does it take to maintain success over such a long period of time?

You have to love what you do, I work 24/7 52 weeks a year in music and spend many hours working on the label. I can’t believe we are 20 years old now. We have such a loyal fanbase that support the label and great artists that make us sound amazing.

Q7. Please leave a message for your fans in Japan.

Thank you for your continued support and love from the dancefloor. A trip to japan is one that I always look forward to every year. I hope you enjoy the “Live in Tokyo” album and thank you to everyone who has helped out with this project.
